Fleet Breakdown Cover Explained

What is fleet breakdown cover?

When it comes to breakdown cover for your vehicles, it can be both costly and stressful to manage several policies, organising the paperwork and renewing them annually.

With fleet breakdown cover, you can cover a combination of vehicles under the same policy, even if they’re not the same type. This can be anything from cars through to vans, mini buses and all types of coaches. This saves a lot of time and is much easier to manage rather than covering them individually.

Fleet breakdown cover can be very flexible and bespoke to your needs. Plus, the more vehicles you have, the lower the cost per vehicle overall.

There are different levels of fleet breakdown cover, which we will explore in this blog.

What affects the price of fleet breakdown cover?

There are various factors that affect the price of fleet breakdown cover, including:

  • Type of vehicle
  • Areas you will be covering
  • Age of your vehicles
  • Mileage
  • Make and model

Ultimately the overall price of your cover will depend on the level you require, as explained below.

Different levels of fleet breakdown cover explained

The below levels of fleet breakdown cover are the most common types offered by breakdown companies, such as ourselves here at Fleet Cover, although what is offered in each of them can vary slightly. It’s important to look into the small details before signing a policy.

  • UK Local Cover: UK Local Cover means that if you break down, you can find recovery at a garage or destination of your choice within 10 miles of the breakdown.
  • UK Local and National Cover: As well as the above, this means you are covered UK wide.
  • UK Local, National and Doorstep cover: In addition to both of the above, we can also assist you if you can’t get your vehicle started on your doorstep. This is also known as breakdown cover at home or home assistance.
  • UK and European Cover: All of the above, plus roadside assistance in the UK and throughout Europe.

Our fleet breakdown cover also comes with additional benefits, including free 48-hour car hire, medical recovery, map service, and message relay service.

What if I break down and have nowhere to stay?

If you find yourself in an unfortunate circumstance where you have broken down in the night and cannot get home, some policies also include emergency overnight accommodation. If you are traveling alone we can provide up to £150 towards somewhere to stay, or £75 per person if there is more than one person in the vehicle. This also includes breakfast while your vehicle is being repaired.

Are my keys protected in breakdown cover?

All levels of our breakdown cover protect issues with keys such as losing them, breaking them or leaving them inside your vehicle. We will cover callout and mileage charges back to the recovery operators’ base or a destination you may prefer.

If I break down, is alternative travel covered?

We can offer up to £150 for someone to return and collect the repaired vehicle, or we can supply up to £250 for alternative travel.
